Currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, Thimbleweed Park is a brand new, old-school adventure game by Maniac Mansion creators Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick. Lost along a dusty stretch of highway, the town of Thimbleweed Park once boasted an opulent hotel, a vibrant business district, and the state’s largest pillow factory, but now teeters on the edge of oblivion and continues to exist for no real reason. When two washed up detectives are called in to investigate a dead body found floating in the river just outside of town… well, that’s when things get interesting.

With five playable characters, multiple endings, deliciously retro 2D graphics, classic verb-based point & click gameplay, inventory items, and a bizarre comedy storyline swaddled around a grisly murder, Thimbleweed Park is the game that might have immediately followed Maniac Mansion if only Ron hadn’t gone off on a pirate kick.

About Ron Gilbert
Ron Gilbert is a game designer, writer and programmer best known for creating and designing the cult classic adventure games Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. Ron was the ninth employee at Lucasfilm Games, instrumental in their leap into adventure games, and creator of the SCUMM engine. He was the co-founder of Humongous Entertainment and made numerous adventure games for kids, such as Putt-Putt, Freddi Fish, and Pajama Sam. His most recent work includes the adventure/RPG DeathSpank, The Cave, and indie mobile games The Big Big Castle and Scurvy Scallywags.

About Gary Winnick
Gary Winnick is an artist, writer, designer and art director. During his ten-year stint at Lucasfilm Games, he co-designed and created all the art for their first graphic adventure Maniac Mansion. Additionally, he created art for and art directed many other LucasArts games including Zak McKracken, Loom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Monkey Island, and Habitat. Gary created the original property Defenders of Dynatron City, co-plotted a 6-issue mini-series for Marvel, and served as a producer for the animated TV special. He was a co-founder of Lightsource Studios and

Yes I know strange boy uploading a video of an adventure game you are thinking.

But wait!! This was a ground breaking Atari ST adventure to kill ALL previous adventure games in technical ability….then they added some speech and music for the Amiga version BUT then they made it for the 1mhz Commodore C64 and……………….

well it was amazing that it even happened, not only that the parser is THE SAME and the graphics are amazing.

So one Adventure game to own on C64 is this one. Also the Gamebase copy of this is NOT correctly ripped so look to other sites to get it working. Also you NEED true drive emulation ON!

Now go put your wizard’s cap on and bath robe and then go grab a copy of this game after ringing in sick with food poisoning.

It’s not all about amazing SID tunes or multiplexed sprites with VIC-II scrolling bug matey peeps…sometimes we can be culturally savvy little Commodore Users

(I grabbed my copy from the Retrogenius C64 collection before comments asking me where to get a working copy appear K?)

PS I forgot the kind of lewd/rude sentences you typed in that would get you killed instantly…feel free to share :o)

NOTE: The messed up intro was simply made because this video is showing a (Graphic) glitch. So I was just playing around.

This is what happens when I attempt to use my Null DC emulator and play Sonic Adventure 2 (Early Demo). The graphics AREN’T supposed to look like this. If ANYBODY knows how to fix this, that would be great.

I recorded me going through the level to show the problem AND for entertainment.

Also, please note the fact I DIDN’T use the ramps on purpose. Sonci makes a loud beep sound on the emulator if I do. I also played like CRAP at points, so please forgive me. And I didn’t record the sound. So I played some music while showing the video. Iqf you don’t like it, you’re free to mute it and play some of your own music or open a new tab and go to youtube and search Sonic adventure 2 OST City Escape. Play that video while watching this to listen to the original song.

If somebody can help, I can do a play-through of this early demo. Maybe…

With all of that crap aside…ENJOY! =)

The VGA version of the classic adventure game, represented the first attempt of LucasFilm to create a game on VGA video cards, the result is good.

As the whole world appeared to be unified, borders were created to separate the rich area from the poor one. The age of unification has come, in what is known as “The Great Fusion”.

Max, a young and brilliant programmer, will fall into poverty and will fight to make a living trying to avoid falling for his own ignorance, experiencing thousands of crazy situations, amidst countless nods to classic graphic adventures and films from pop culture.
Tired of first-person shooters?
We all know zombies are cool, and killing them is even cooler. But the creators of “The Great Fusion” –a bunch of 28 year-old guys in robes- wanted to make a different game, which could recapture many of those good old times from the classics of the genre (like Monkey Island or Day of The Tentacle). Those witty conversations which help solving the continuous puzzles popping up at every turn…

It was a unique and unforgettable experience which can be rarely found in games today. Our priority has always been to make an alternative game with an intuitive interface which would allow us to enter Max’s world. We won’t have to be great heroes, we will not save or take over the World, but we will recreate one of the potential futures our society is unfortunately heading.

Loom is a graphical point-and-click adventure game done by Lucasfilm Games (known as LucasArts) in 1990. In the mythical age of Great Guilds, the elders of the Guild of Weavers have disappeared from the home island of Loom. Now young Boppin must learn their powerful magic spells and venture forth to save his guild.

This game has been released for PC MS-DOS, Mac OS, Amiga, Atari ST, FM Towns, TurboGrafx-16 and re-released on Steam in 2009. Originally, Loom has been planned to be the first game of a trilogy. The sequels were supposed to be called “Forge” and “The Fold”. However, the development team was busy with other projects after the release and no one could be found to do them. The original version of Loom was shipped with a 30 minute audio drama on tape.

In this video, you can see the playable MS-DOS demo version.

Lili, iPod 5G / iPhone / iPad: http://goo.gl/WpmDo

Today I am going to present you a review of the App Store-game Lili which is brandnew for iPod, iPhone and iPad. A short time ago I praised another Action-Adventure, Horn from Phosphor Games for its great design, the excellent graphics and the wonderful gameplay. It is really astonishing what the developers squeeze out of the Unreal Graphics engine by now. Lili is no different. But compared to Horn Lili features more adventure and less action. Lili focuses more on exploration and on the magical atmosphere. During the game you take control of the little young woman Lili who lands on a mysterious island. Lili is on an expedition to collect rare flowers for her professor. You can freely move on the island – well free is relative. You move on paths and in areas. The island is splitted into sections. Each section stands for another village of the island. It is your task to explore the island with Lili, to visit the villages, talk to the strange residents and to struggle with mysterious and the most time unfriendly spirits, who are in possession of the most beautiful and rare flowers.

The atmosphere of the game is fascinating from the start. Lili lives up to its trailers! You are going to explore wonderful environments, full of bizarre creatures like robots, woodmen and spirits. The style of the game represents a mix of the last scorsese-movie Hugo and great animation-masterpieces of Hayao Miyazaki like Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away. The developers further took elements of the Zelda-series from Nintendo and merged everything to a truly magical experience. It is very positive that the developers managed to keep the controls simple. You move Lili with a simple tap on the screen, a double tap makes Lili run. If you move your finger over the screen you can look around or take Lili to new directions. You can take up flowers by simple draging them to Lili, you can open treasure chests by a simple tap. Via tap you can also open doors and talk to other characters.

Your maintask in the game is to fight with the spirits. You need to pick up flowers from their heads and backs with swipe-gestures. But this is not an easy task. The spirits are shaking , firing bombs at you and they grow thorny flowers you shouldn’t touch. In the beginning of the game a trainer will teach you what you have to do. He will keep in touch with you throughout the game with letters you can get from walking postboxes. Like in Zelda you can equip yourself with better items in the village-shops.

And so you move over the island from village to village. You will know where to turn next from village-people, the map or from signs which are displayed right into the game. It is really great that the villages offer a huge variety in terms of the looks and from the characters you meet there. The developers have let their imaginations run wild and the Unreal Graphic Engine can show it’s muscles. A special praise goes to the music which underlines the atmosphere with magical melodies which could be right from a Hollywood-movie. There is no voice acting in the game and you should be capable of understanding English. All the beings in the world of Lili talk in their own fantasy-language like in the Zelda-games. This is ok for me. During the game you are going to become stronger and you can put experience points to certain categories. But this game-element is a simple one and has nothing to do with a full-blown RPG. But that makes it much easier for beginners.

My conclusion:
I praised Horn lately for its quality and said it was a masterpiece. It’s pretty much the same for Lilly. Even though Lili features less action than Horn, the game fascinates with its absolute magical atmosphere. One simple dives into a whole different world, when you see those beautiful graphics, talk to the lovely designed characters and listen to the wonderful music. Furthermore the controls are really simple. Of course the developers could have put more sidequets and more exploration-elements in the game besides the main quest, that would have been good. But I liked the game anyway and had and have a lot of fun playing it. There is bad news though for owners of an iPod Touch 4G, Lili will not run on it due to the limited memory of the iPod Touch 4G. You need to have a brandnew iPod Touch 5G, an iPhone 4 or an iPad 2 or better for playing Lili. I can only recommend Lili to the owners of such devices and to all people who like games like Zelda. You can download Lili from the App Store for 4.99 Dollars or 3.99 Euro. –

A playthrough of the VGA DOS version of Sierra’s 1993 PC graphic adventure game, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.

Absolutely fantastic graphic adventure, one of the Sierra games that blows away just about anything else produced at the time (from Sierra, Lucasarts, or anyone else, for that matter). The writing is top notch, the voice acting is dead on, and the pixel-art and the midi music are f’ing amazing.

This playthrough is using the CD version running in VGA mode since the SVGA version’s strange mix of high-res objects, icons, and portaits against the standard VGA backdrops look pretty terrible.

A few weeks prior to launching his record-shattering Kickstarter campaign for a new Point-n-Click Graphic Adventure game, Tim Schafer sat down with his old boss and mentor, Ron Gilbert. Together, they look back on the genre they helped define and discussed what they did right, where they went wrong, and how they’ll do things differently moving forward with the new game.

If you enjoyed this video, we recommend visiting the game’s Kickstarter page (http://www.tinyurl.com/doublekick) before March 13th and signing up for the $15 reward tier. This will earn you a copy of the finished game and exclusive, backer-only access to a documentary series we’ll be producing about the game’s development from start to finish.
