Currently Anshar Studios – the team behind Detached – is working on a new multiplayer title called Telefrag VR. Based around PvP battles, the studio has now begun an open beta for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift players which runs for the next couple of weeks.

Telefrag VR aims to offer a unique first-person shooter (FPS) experience to zero-g titles like Echo Combat or Space Junkies. While your feet still stay rooted to the floor, the environment offers a far more gravity-defying challenge. Its special feature is in its teleport mechanic, allowing players to jump from platform to platform, no matter how or where they’re placed. But teleporting isn’t just about switching locations, it also happens to be your most dangerous weapon. When timed right you can teleport into an opponent, usually instantly killing them.

There are also several weapons at your disposal, being able to choose from three loadouts prior to each match starting. These include Rocket Launchers, Flak Cannons, and futuristic Plasma Rifles, each offering their own unique strategic advantages.

Telefrag VR design is based around a futuristic Roman Empire which never collapsed: “Instead, it consolidated its power around the globe and continued to expand into outer space. The conquering of new civilizations and races and the development of new technologies ushered in a new era of gladiator battles,” states the synopsis.

VRFocus first came across the title last year, saying: “If you’ve played Detached then you’ll know the quality level that Anshar Studios is capable of producing and even at this early stage Telefrag looks to be coming along nicely.” The beta will now be the first time the public get to test the project.

The global beta tournament has already begun and runs through until 10th April 2019. To take part simple head to Steam and download the free beta. For doing so players will also receive an exclusive skin for their character. All the studio asks is for feedback via its game forum or Discord channel.

Telefrag VR is a cross-platform multiplayer that will support HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR when it officially launches later this year. For any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

Star Wars™: Legion Seasonal Play

Introducing a New Design for Star Wars™: Legion 2019 Season One Open Play

“Hey, don’t worry. Chewie and me got into a lot of places more heavily guarded than this.”
–Han Solo, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

How do you play Star Wars™: Legion?

Do you and your friends recreate your favorite Star Wars battles? Do you enjoy massive multiplayer battles with AT-STs and T-47 Airspedeers blasting at each other past dozens and dozens of troopers, droids, speeder bikes, and Wookiees? Do you play smaller battles with smaller armies on 3' x 3' playmats to conclude your combats in a shorter period of time? Do you download and play through the Operations published by Organized Play?

Well, whatever way you play Star Wars: Legion, it's about to become the right way. The only question is: are you playing it in the right place?

Starting this April with the 2019 Season One Kit, Star Wars: Legion Organized Play is about to become a whole lot more "open." The focus turns toward Open Play Nights and participation—any kind of participation—so long as it's your participation and it takes place at your favorite local game store.

The More You Play, The More You Earn

What does it mean that Star Wars: Legion Seasonal Play has shifted toward Open Play Nights? It means you only need to do two things to take part (and win cool prizes):

  1. Show up at your favorite local game store.
  2. Play Star Wars: Legion.

That's it. That's all you need to do. And you can do it at whatever pace you like, playing games with anyone.

In return, you can earn some cool, extended-art cards that you can use to enhance your favorite armies. The 2019 Season One Kit comes with six different extended-art cards. By participating in Open Play, you can earn up to two of these cards per month, and you can earn as many as two copies of each.

Month Card A Card B

3

All cards other than the Imperial Royal Guards are double-sided. Click on a card to view its reverse side.

To earn these cards, you'll report each game you complete during Star Wars: Legion Open Play to your store's representative, who will check a box on the store's tracking sheet. Each time you check off a whole section, you'll earn the associated promo card. And the good news? You only need to play a single game to check off a whole section.

That means you can claim two copies each of the month's two different promo cards by playing just one game per week. Or you can slam through four games in a large tournament and earn all four cards in one go. The pace at which you earn these cards is entirely up to you!

Ready Your Strike Team

As the first season of Rallypoint Qualifiers explodes across the globe and offers tournament players all the competitive Star Wars: Legion they could hope to find, the 2019 Season One Kit and the Open Play Nights it supports offer you another way to enjoy your Star Wars trooper battles.

Build your armies and play your friends. Meet new players, teach new players. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination, so reach out to your local game store and find out how you can get involved with Star Wars: Legion Open Play!

Well, it's been a crazy week in the world of mobile gaming. If we were looking for a chance to ease in the new editorial team, this definitely wasn't it. We've seen the announcement of Apple Arcade, which might well revolutionise the way we consume premium mobile games, as well as the long-awaited (but ultimately a bit disappointing for a variety of reasons) launch of The Elder Scrolls: Blades.

New editorial team you ask? Why, yes. I've taken over as editor, with the lovely Ric moving on to pastures new. We've always welcomed a new addition to the team - Dann Sullivan - as deputy editor. You're going to be seeing a lot more of him and his lovely face on these hallowed pages in the coming weeks and months. Say hi to him in the comments, I'm sure he'd appreciate it. ... [MORE]

Hey fellow Humans,

Michael speaking here on behalf of Curve Digital – I am the Senior Producer of Human: Fall Flat.

Last December, we announced that more content is coming in 2019. I’m pleased to announce to you that our first big free 2019 update is coming on April 16! It will offer you a brand-new level called “Dark” and 13 customization elements!

Human Fall Flat

Human Fall FlatHuman Fall Flat

The new “Dark” level is the very first level set at night-time, with a flavor of a nightmare rather than a dream – but not scary, just atmospheric and mysterious. We wanted to try something a bit different, a level that would stand out yet was still undeniably Human: Fall Flat. A night-time level hadn’t been done yet, so why not?

Moreover, we had electricity already used in the Power Plant level and this made us start to think about swinging lanterns and Tesla coils, and how cool electricity arcs would look in the dark. As far as the level theme is concerned, the main inspirations were horror movies like the Universal Classic Monsters and movies such as Beetlejuice and A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Human Fall Flat (gif)

Moving forward, we tried a few different horror movie tropes: abandoned buildings, the big creepy clocktower, a mansion on a hilltop, whilst trying to keep the puzzles based in reality and science, and to the Human: Fall Flat formula.

When we started building the level, we used the two previous levels, Power Plant and Aztec, as benchmarks to make the new level as big as the Aztec level in size. However, it ended up being much larger. The puzzles themselves required a lot of iteration and tweaking due to Human: Fall Flat’s unique physics.

I hope you like what we did with the level and the team is really looking forward to seeing you discover all the puzzles and surprises it has.

From the developer of You Must Build A Boat and 10000000 comes a puzzle narrative adventure based around capturing moments and dealing with consequences.

Photographs features 5 stories, each with their own twists, and each with their own unique puzzle mechanic. It's an unusual proposition, but one that we think delivers where it counts. ... [MORE]

The Tobacco Dock in London, UK is an unusual place to have a big show like EGX Rezzed. The videogame event – which is primarily geared towards PC gaming – has been held there for a number of years, providing a much more intimate feel than its bigger brother EGX (normally held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham). The small rooms allow studios to create a shop front feel to their displays, for a very British style of gaming event. There was just one problem when it came to VRFocus attending, the notable lack of virtual reality (VR).

That’s not to say there wasn’t any but it was a shame to wander around and really have to search for any hint of a VR experience when the UK has some of the best developers in the world creating awesome content. A good example was the fact that PlayStation was there in all its blue glory but not a PlayStation VR was in sight. On demonstration was Media Molecule’s Dreams – which will get VR support – but April’s Early Access release doesn’t include it.

The ever-popular Coatsink Software – purveyors of fine VR titles like Augmented Empire, Esper, Esper 2, A Night Sky and  They Suspect Nothing was also there but alas no VR, not even a hint of newly revealed Shadow Point.

However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom as VRFocus not only found some VR, it’s also worth trying out if you have the chance. The centrepiece was most certainly at the Porsche stand with racing simulator specialist Vesaro displaying one of its Commercial VR simulators with full pneumatics and Oculus Rift headset – which has a retail price starting from £20,000 GBP – where players could race on Project CARS Pro title Porsche 911 VR-Racing Experience built specifically for the car manufacturer by Slightly Mad Studios.

Continuing with that sense of adrenaline is London-based studio Blackwall Labs which was demoing its recently announced title NYC Bungee. Using an HTC Vive the core of the experience is being able to bungee jump off the statue of liberty – something you couldn’t do in real life. Other parts to the title include being able to climb the statue, take a zip wire from the top of the statue, or for something a little more tranquil there’s a balloon ride to the top.

Primarily designed for VR arcades, NYC Bungee will eventually come to Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality home users as well.

Next to Blackwall Labs was Spillage Games with its title A Dragon’s Tale, where player’s are the dragon, having to hold the HTC Vive controllers out like wings to flap them to gain height. Once aloft you could then soar around the landscape, learning how to breathe fire and deal with monsters.

The last on the list was located in the Unreal Engine area, with indie developer Ben Lunato demoing his videogame A Ton of Feathers. It’s about chasing down a serial killer through a series of novellas that he’s anonymously published online whilst trying to discover his identity.

Tomorrow is the last day of EGX Rezzed 2019 with some tickets still available. For the latest events featuring VR, keep reading VRFocus.

Out of time and resources… hard choices must be made. (More)

Balance Changes

NOTE*: The PBE is a testing grounds for new, tentative, & experimental changes. Be aware that what you see below may be relative to other changes earlier this cycle! These are not official notes.

Champions
Neeko
  • Attack speed per level increased from 1.5 to 2.5

Sylas
[Sylas has other changes in testing on the PBE!]
  • Kingslayer (W) heal AP ratio lowered from 45% to 40%

Xayah
  • Deadly Plumage (W) attack speed lowered from 40/50/60/70/80% to 40/47.5/55/62.5/70%
    • Vs. Live: from 30/35/40/45/50% to 40/47.5/55/62.5/70%

Runes
Minion Dematerializer (I3)
[These values are relative to live!]
  • Amount of charges lowered from 6 to 3
  • Damage Bonus increased from 4% to 6%
  • Damage Bonus on same minion type increased from 1% to 3%
  • Starting cooldown lowered from 240 to 180
  • Rows swapped back to live (Demat back on row 3, Hextech Flashtraption back on row 2)

Context & Notes

1) Rior Repertoir provided a changelist for Minion Dematerializer this cycle:
"Probably going to change the 9.6 Dematerializer nerf from what you see on PBE today to:
Charges :: 6 >>> 3
Damage Bonus :: 4% >>> 6%
Damage Bonus on same minion type :: 1% >>> 3%
Starting CD :: 240 >>> 180
Going to avoid the row swap and instead aim to nerf cannon spam."
2) Make sure to check out Meddler's quick gameplay thoughts for March 13th, including thoughts on Kayle & Morgana, bounties, and more:
"Hi folks,
Usual Disclaimers
These posts will often contain talk about future work we're doing, or planning to do, that isn't yet guaranteed to ship. The nature of the work could change or, depending on what we discover, projects mentioned may get delayed or even stopped. If you'd like to see a Tweet whenever a new one of these posts goes up: https://twitter.com/RiotMeddler
Kayle and Morgana
Some thoughts on what we're planning for Kayle and Morg now they've been out for a bit.
Kayle:
Is looking on the strong side. Not all Kayle's are doing well, but we're seeing a lot of power come as players get through the learning curve. We considered a hotfix nerf late last week but decided to hold off since her performance was very variable. What we're currently planning instead are some nerfs and some feel improvements in 9.6 as below. Overall expectation is that her power will be brought down, she'll be a bit more item reliant than she was previously and her W/E should feel a bit better to use as well.
Stats
  • AD/lvl: 3 >>> 2.5
  • AS/lvl: 2 >>> 1.5
  • Default for Adaptive Force now AD instead of AP
  • Recommended items updated to reflect power of Guinsoo's and BotRK.
W
  • MS %: 26 - 50 (+.1 AP) >>> 26 - 50 (+.08 AP)
  • Haste at end of 0.25s cast >>> Haste at start of 0.25s cast
  • No longer has ~1s cancel-able winddown after cast (could be canceled by spamming RMB on your target)
E
  • Fixed 0.25 second cast time >>> Cast time now scales with AS (like a normal AA reset)
Morgana
We're looking at Morg nerfs, with a focus on bringing her mid lane performance in particular down, since she's most out of line there. Aiming for a fairly light nerf right now.
Stats
  • HP5 5.5 >>> 4.5, given she's getting more healing via Tormented Soil
W
  • Total Min AP Ratio :: .8 >>> .7 (.08 per half second >>> .07 per half second
  • Total Max AP Ratio :: 2.16 >>> 1.89
Bounties
We've been doing some further work on bounties for 9.6 and will have post detailing those out later these week, most likely tomorrow. Key things we've been focused on include having CS bounties diminish if enemies catch up on your CS lead, a somewhat slower rate of CS bounty building and support item gold contributing to CS bounties for the owner since those items are CS replacements.
Clash tests follow up
As mentioned last week we had some Clash tests over the weekend in BR, LAS and LAN. BRs went fairly smoothly, LAS ran into some issues on day 1 which also appeared to a lesser degree in LAN on day 2. We're digging into those with the intention of addressing whatever the cause is before the next round of testing. EU's tests which were scheduled for this weekend are postponed while we get those fixes in place. More details to follow once we've got them."

Last month Japanese studios Yomuneco and gumi Inc. launched their first closed beta for upcoming action title Swords of Gargantua. This week the developers have begun a second closed beta, but this time they’re accepting a much bigger pool of players to join in and provide feedback.

Just like before, if you’re keen on applying you’ll need an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headset and then head on over to Swords of Gargantua’s Discord channel. All you need to do is follow the instructions on the #beta-apply channel. If accepted, all beta testers who share their feedback through a provided survey will be given the opportunity to have their name added to the credits as a Closed Beta Tester.

For this second beta test Yomuneco has included several new additions, including a new combo system that amplifies your damage after a successful block, dodge or parry, more weapons to fight with – a Samurai sword and Club – plus instead of pre-set enemy waves, now players will fight enemies based on how well they perform. The stronger you are, the harder the enemy.

The Swords of Gargantua closed beta is already running so sign-up as quickly as possible to avoid missing out. The beta will run until Sunday, 7th April 2019.

Designed as proper hack n’ slash style adventure, with Swords of Gargantua the studio has paid particular attention to making the sword-based gameplay as realistic as possible. Thus ensuring every player movement is finely tuned and mirrored directly in the virtual world.

This isn’t a solitary experience either. With a cross-platform four-player co-op mode you can collaborate with friends on taking down all sorts of dangerous enemies. There will be a variety of weapons for different gameplay styles, with a total of 30 to unlock across 100 single-player missions, while multiplayer will feature native voice chat, allowing you to develop strategies with your team before heading into combat.

VRFocus saw an early version at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2018, saying in the preview: “What was shown is certainly exciting, with an intriguing storyline mixed with gritty aesthetics and fluid combat.” Yomuneco has yet to reveal a launch window or date for Swords of Gargantua, when it does VRFocus will let you know.

They make cute noises, they look sweet, they very well might taste delicious when deep fried, there are few things you could complain about when it comes to the adorable wee Chocobo. So it's only natural that he finally gets a game of his own. ... [MORE]

Skin Tweaks

Here's Fairy Flan with details on updates made on Dunkmaster Ivern:
"Hey all,
Fairy Flan here. I’m a VFX artist on the skins teams, specifically the team that made Dunkmaster Ivern. I’m here to talk a little bit about the changes we recently made to Dunkmaster Ivern and acknowledge everyone’s feedback.
Going through the PBE posts, Ivern main subreddit, social, I definitely saw a lot of feedback around the thematic that we chose for Ivern. While we’re really happy to see some players are excited for Dunkmaster, we know a number of you were expecting a darker thematic and we disappointed you. We do try and find the best possible fit for thematic and champion, but that doesn’t always mean we nail it for everyone.
That said, you all did give us some really great suggestions for Dunkmaster Ivern and we took them and made some changes to the skin:
  • Fresh new coat of paint on Iverns backboard (and a new backboard in general!)
  • New asset in Ivern Taunt
  • New asset in Bush spawn on W
  • Amped up SFX
  • Clearer vfx on passive camp
We learned a lot throughout this whole process and will definitely use all of your feedback when we approach future skins. We hope that these changes make Dunkmaster Ivern a better skin for you all to enjoy and really do appreciate all of your input!
-Fairy Flan
PS - Sorry this post took longer than you’re probably used to, we were working on some Ivern changes!"

X-Wing™ Seasonal Play

Introducing a New Design for X-Wing™ 2019 Season One Open Play

"We are making a difference, Sabine. And I promise: we won't always be fighting this battle alone."

–Hera Syndulla, Star Wars: Rebels

Now that the System Open Series and Hyperspace Trials are both in full swing, there's more than enough X-Wing tournament action to satisfy even the most competitive squadron leaders… So what about all of us who are just looking for a place to enjoy some fun, casual games?

Maybe you want to fly through a scenario you created in the squad builder's custom game mode, or maybe you just want to test a new squadron. Maybe you and your friends want to enjoy a "furball" match, each bringing a single ship outfitted to a set number of points. Or maybe you want to teach a newer player with some Quick Build cards. None of these options are tournament-based, so what does X-Wing Organized Play offer you?

The answer—now—is quite a lot.

Starting with the 2019 Season One Kit, X-Wing Seasonal Kits are designed for Open Play. What does that mean? It means you just need to do two things:

  1. Show up at your favorite local game store.
  2. Play X-Wing.

In return, you can earn some cool, extended-art cards that you can use to decorate your favorite squadrons.

Play More to Earn More

The new X-Wing Seasonal Kit design marks one of many steps Fantasy Flight Games is taking to restructure its Organized Play programs throughout 2019 (as noted in the article, "The Future of Organized Play"), and it aims to make our games more welcoming to newer and casual players even as it continues to offer veterans the chance to play for custom prizes.

Starting with 2019 Season One, each Seasonal Kit introduces materials to support three months of Open Play. There are two cards that you can earn per month, and you can earn two copies of each.

$(document).ready(function() var opts = iframe: true, innerHeight: 300, innerWidth: 419 ; $('#F9E5').colorbox(opts); );

3

$(document).ready(function() var opts = iframe: true, innerHeight: 300, innerWidth: 419 ; $('#769C').colorbox(opts); );

How can you earn these cards? All you have to do to is head to your favorite local game store, play some games, and have the store's representative record your participation on a tracking sheet.

$(document).ready(function() var opts = iframe: true, innerHeight: 773, innerWidth: 1000 ; $('#8AF4').colorbox(opts); );

Each time you play enough games to fill out one section of the group's check boxes, you earn the associated card, and it's important to note that you can do this at any rate—and by playing whatever type of game most appeals to you. Even your tournament games can count. The key points are simply that you must play those games in the store and have them recorded on the tracking sheet.

Fly Casual

X-Wing lends itself perfectly to competitive play—but there's plenty of room to enjoy the game in more casual environments as well.

X-Wing Organized Play has historically focused on tournament play with little regard to the more casual players. And while we're giving just as much attention—more, in fact—to X-Wing tournament play as we ever have, we're excited to recognize everyone else as well.

You don't have to fly the galaxy's fiercest squadrons to enjoy a game of X-Wing. You don't have to compete in tournaments to make new friends and join the X-Wing community. And you don't have to shoot down your opponent's ships to claim some of the galaxy's coolest prizes. You just have to show up, and play.

Come join us for some games of X-Wing. Talk to your local retailer to find out when and how you can get started with Organized Play!
