This is an absolutely STUNNING homebrew FPS for the DS. It is VERY IMPRESSIVE! The environment is rendered in FULL 3D. The levels are huge, open environments where you shoot enemies as you make your way to the end. There are 6 different guns. You can pick up ammo and health as you progress. This is a MUST have for anyone with a flashcard for their DS. http://gbatemp.net/index.php?s=478c18d35415d28520414211770abb4b&download=6742

What makes a good FPS Game Map Design? – First Person Shooters have a strained relation with good map design. Some of them have maps you’ll remember for the rest of your life, some of them were just a corridor and some of them aren’t just that good. But what made the good ones good?

I’m giving fancy video editing a try but I’m not going to pay to remove that watermark just yet. This is the same build as the video I uploaded a couple of days ago. I figured I should flesh this out a little more.

I want other people to be able to play this, so I did away with the vest and just went with off-the-shelf products. This is what I’ve come up with so far.

The Rift gives you an excellent feeling of depth perception. The default scale in UDK makes it feel like you’re pretty short though. The blue lines that you sometimes see in the middle of the screen are the top of the player’s chest armor. I need to make that invisible to owner on the next build. On this video on your monitor you can see into the player’s arms, but the way it works out on the Rift, you usually don’t notice it.

Other features that I’ll need to add in coming builds: dual-wielding, swimming, and melee weapons. It’s funny how when the enemy bots come at me, my first instinct is to punch them.

A playthrough of Ocean’s 1993 action-adventure/first-person shooter for the Super Nintendo, Jurassic Park.

When the game came out, I remember looking at reviews and photos thinking it looked sweet. It was probably in part because the movie was like the most hyped thing ever, and it was amazing (at least so I thought as a kid – those special effects back then were pretty revolutionary), but it still looked good as a game. Doom+Zelda+dinosaurs? I mean duh, that’s an obvious win.

When we rented it, I was amazed. It looks choppy and lame now, but the 3D levels were kind of terrifying back then, and just the fact that they were 3D really made them a big deal. I never made it very far in the few times playing it: I got so lost in those indoor levels! But, I had a good time with it anyway. It was an incredibly difficult game, and it still makes me grind my teeth in unhealthy ways.

It’s kind of neat to reflect on now, but as an adult playing it again almost 25 years later, I’m thoroughly unimpressed with it. Maybe I should’ve just not gone back to Jurassic Park..

Haha, it’s not that it’s bad. The mechanics are solid enough, and the 2D graphics still look reasonably good. The soundtrack is as good as I had remembered, though I never understood why it so randomly shifted to just ambient noise or another song as I’m getting into the jungle music 🙂

The place that the game suffers the most is in the 3D levels. They impressed at the time, but today they border on unplayable. I spent hours mapping out these stages before doing a final recorded run of it, and I still had a hard time with it. The frame rate seems to always be in the single digits, so turning feels like driving a Mack truck, and since so many rooms look identical, it takes about two seconds to get lost. And these levels get massive – the biggest has five floors. No wonder I never got anywhere as a kid. I suppose I have much more patience now.

It was a great game for its time, but for how modern it was, it has aged less gracefully than even Donatella Versace. If you don’t know her, look her up. A picture really is worth a thousand words.

Looking at it now is fun through nostalgic eyes, but if you have fond memories of it, don’t go back and play it again. I assure you, disillusionment won’t be far behind. It’s better than many of Ocean’s style-over-substance titles at the time, but this one had a lot of potential to become a classic. So many of the elements were there. But they never came together properly, I’m guessing because the thought of flashy money-maker shots on the box won over the guys in charge.

The other huge disappointment is the ending. I mean, seriously?! You made a game this hard, and the ending is just about identical to the intro? Mode 7 isn’t *that* cool, guys – what a kick in the teeth after making it through the gauntlet.

Jurassic Park was just soooo cool when I was 11, but in hindsight it tripped over its feet for how it soooo wanted to do things that it could never properly hope to do. The SNES wasn’t a Ferrari. Hell, it wasn’t even a Corolla. It was a Skoda with a nice paint job. The devs set their sights a bit too high, for sure.

I did get a kick out of the random Kenner logo on the Visitor Center, though. I’d totally forgotten about that one. It was also shown in the ending of the NES Jurassic Park, which is a significantly better game than this one, despite everyone’s belief (mine included) at the time that the SNES was unquestionably the version to get.
No cheats were used during the recording of this video.

What is ROBLOX? ROBLOX is an online virtual playground and workshop, where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It۪s unique in that practically everything on ROBLOX is designed and constructed by members of the community. ROBLOX is designed for 8 to 18 year olds, but it is open to people of all ages. Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore ROBLOX interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects. Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer Capture the Flag۝ game or some other, yet_to_be_dreamed-up creation. There is no cost for this first plot of virtual land. By participating and by building cool stuff, ROBLOX members can earn specialty badges as well as ROBLOX dollars (ROBUX۝). In turn, they can shop the online catalog to purchase avatar clothing and accessories as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms.

Hey guys! Today, I made some time to do a tutorial. This time, I am going to try to help you by sharing my knowledge of making a first person shooter in Game Maker Studio. If you don’t feel like following the entire video, here is the download link! My video editor seems to have killed the audio levels, so the video will be kind of silent during the video. Turn up them volumes and it should be fine!

Smooth texture filtering (anisotropic):

Tell me what the next one should be about?

– 3D terrain/terrain collisions?
– 3D ambient occlusion
– Something with 2D?

You decide!

PS: Just noticed I said animals instead of enemies in the beginning of the video… excuse me.

Thanks for watching!

After seeing the second FPS Mario and the making of video from FreddieW channel, I decided I needed to create this. Only difference is, this is in UDK real-time.

This was created using 3DS Max and the Unreal Engine.
Took me almost 3 months to learn how to use Unreal and set up all of the assets myself.
So here is my first full video, a real-time UDK animation of Sonic the Hedgehog’s first level.

Large, 3367 Optical, Omron Switches, 120g. This is one of the biggest gaming mice I’ve ever used and actually feels bigger than the DeathAdder, so for people with big hands, this might be the mouse you wanted… unless you don’t like 120g+ weight.

The mouse has almost everything else right with build quality, sensor, buttons and functionality… so it’s a top mouse for what it is, but obviously won’t suit everyone.

The Zowie EC2-A has been my favourite FPS mouse since I bought it, but it might be a bit small for hands over 19.5cm. That’s where the EC1-A comes in, it’s the same mouse, but with bigger dimensions.

It has one of the top sensors (3310 optical), Huano switches and the best shape and balance I’ve used.

Some extra notes:

1. Without software you can’t rebind the buttons
2. You also can’t change the lighting
3. There is no way to turn off the LED
4. I’ve tested it on multiple pads and it tracks very well, but this is the Zowie G-SR, found here: http://amzn.to/22GmrrA
5. Since the recall, there may not be stock available from your usual supplier… hopefully they will get them back soon.

This is a Minecraft clone FPS that will have you fighting mobs a little differently than Vanilla Minecraft. It is a fun derivation of the game and has huge potential, check out the description:

“Welcome to the Block World Fortress, full of zombies and enemies! You are a pixel hero and you have to survive! Numbers of enemies constantly increase and after a short game time you’ll have hordes of zombies attacking you from all sides, so that you can not relax. When the dead come close you can dodge their attacks or run away. You need to choose the gun and shoot em down. Destroy all the zombies on the first map to open the portal to the next fields!”
